Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: January 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how DeckCast ("DeckCast," "we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website, applications, and services (collectively, the "Service").

Key points

  • Your decks are private by default. We only share them if you create a share link.
  • We do not sell your personal information and we do not share your deck content with advertisers.
  • We use trusted service providers to run DeckCast (hosting, storage, and AI processing) and only share what's needed to deliver the Service.
  • You can request deletion of your account and content at any time, subject to limited legal and backup retention.

If you have questions, contact us at privacy@deckcast.app.

1) What this policy covers

This policy applies to information we collect:

  • When you visit our website.
  • When you create an account or sign in.
  • When you upload a PowerPoint (PPTX) or PDF and generate outputs (microsites, summaries, audio).
  • When you share links to generated content.

It does not cover third-party websites, products, or services that you access through the Service.

2) Information we collect

A) Information you provide

  • Account information: email address (and any optional profile details you provide).
  • Uploaded content: slide decks and documents you upload (PPTX/PDF) and any related metadata you provide (for example, deck title or audience selection).
  • Communications: messages you send to us (support requests, feedback, etc.).

B) Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, timestamps, and interactions (for example, generating a share link).
  • Device and log data: IP address, device/browser type, and approximate location inferred from IP.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: including identifiers used to remember you.

C) Anonymous sessions

Before you create an account or sign in, we may assign your browser an anonymous session identifier (for example, via a cookie) to:

  • enable uploads and generation before login,
  • prevent abuse and enforce limits,
  • associate generated decks with you if you later create an account.

3) How we use information

We use information to:

  • Provide the Service (process uploads, generate microsites and audio, and present results).
  • Personalize outputs (for example, tailoring results for different audiences you select).
  • Operate and improve the Service (debugging, reliability, feature improvement).
  • Secure the Service (fraud prevention, abuse detection, enforcing free-tier limits).
  • Communicate with you (magic links, service notices, support).
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

4) How deck content is processed

When you upload a file, the Service may:

  • convert it (for example, PPTX to PDF),
  • render slide/page images,
  • extract text,
  • generate structured summaries (JSON) and other written outputs,
  • generate audio.

To do this, we may send limited portions of your content (such as extracted text and/or rendered images) to third-party processing providers (see Section 5).

5) How we share information

We share information only as described below.

A) Service providers

We use vendors to host and operate parts of the Service (for example, hosting, storage, databases, processing, and AI generation). These vendors may process data on our behalf, subject to their terms and any applicable agreements.

Examples of providers may include:

  • Hosting and compute: Vercel; Google Cloud services.
  • Database and storage: Supabase.
  • AI processing: Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI and ElevenLabs, depending on the features you use.

Important: We use third-party AI providers to process content in order to deliver DeckCast features (for example, extraction, summarization, and text-to-speech). We configure and use these services in a way intended to limit provider use of your content for training their models and to limit retention, consistent with available provider settings and contractual terms. Providers may retain limited data for purposes such as abuse monitoring or legal compliance, as described in their policies. Your content may be retained by providers as required to deliver the service, comply with law, or as otherwise described in their policies.

B) Sharing links

If you create a share link, anyone with that link may be able to view the shared content. You control which audience view is shared. Shared pages may include generated summaries and may include audio.

C) Legal and safety

We may share information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with law or legal process,
  • protect the rights, safety, and security of DeckCast, our users, or the public,
  • prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

D) Business transfers

If DeckCast is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

E) We do not sell your personal information

We do not sell personal information in exchange for money.

F) No advertising use of your deck content

We do not share your uploaded files or generated outputs with advertisers, and we do not use your deck content to build advertising profiles.

6) Data retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business and legal purposes.

  • Account data: retained while your account is active.
  • Uploaded files and generated outputs: retained until you delete them. We may also delete or de-identify content after prolonged inactivity.
  • Backups: deleted data may persist in backups for a limited time before being overwritten.

Retention by plan (current defaults)

  • Free plan: We may automatically delete uploaded files and generated outputs after a period of time to keep the Service reliable and manage storage costs.
  • Pro plan: We retain your uploaded files and generated outputs until you delete them.

Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and content. We will delete or de-identify information where feasible, subject to legal requirements and limited backup retention.

7) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8) Your choices and controls

A) Access, update, and delete

You may be able to access, update, or delete certain information through your account settings. You can also contact us at privacy@deckcast.app.

B) Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect features such as sign-in, uploads, and saving progress.

C) Marketing communications

If we send marketing emails, you can opt out using the unsubscribe link (service/transactional emails may still be sent).

9) International transfers

We may process information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border data transfers.

10) Privacy rights by region

A) EEA/UK (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, you may have rights including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and data portability.

Legal bases for processing may include:

  • performance of a contract (providing the Service),
  • legitimate interests (security, improvement, fraud prevention),
  • consent (where required),
  • legal obligations.

B) California and other U.S. states

Depending on your state, you may have rights to:

  • request access to categories and specific pieces of personal information,
  • request deletion,
  • correct inaccurate information,
  • opt out of certain forms of sharing where applicable,
  • not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.

To submit a request, email privacy@deckcast.app. We may verify your identity before responding.

11) Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and revise the Effective date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice.
